Received the attached photo from Gary M. who has been fishing our 3.3" OG2s in the Edmonds area for Blackmouth. (He reports that they've had two very successful days with the lure!)
Gary: Thanks for the photo, the reports, and for putting the lures to work. Appreciate both!

Just received the below report from Jim H. who was fishing the OG1s for trout in Tennessee:
"Hey Donn, Received the shipment of lures yesterday…great to hear from you. They look great and thanks for the extras!! I’m already planning to try the OG2s for muskies\stripers\walleyes at a steam plant near here where we fish at night in the winter. Those fish haven’t seen anything like the OG! Had to shorten the leader some for casting, but I think they will work that way…will let you know how they do. I do fish saltwater and will try them there next time I go. I have to admit that I have carried the OG1 (1.8”) samples you provided a couple years in my tackle bag without really putting them in the water. I finally decided to give the pink OG1 a try a couple weeks ago at a trout fishery in the Nolichucky River at Erwin, TN. The results were amazing (see photos…that’s me in the center of the 1st photo, on the right in the 2nd). Easily caught my limit (7) both trips using only the OG1 and once pulled in 3 on 4 casts. I used a 1/8 oz. split shot just above the swivel to get it down some. These results are what prompted me to order more! We have previously used a #7 flo. orange rapala for these fish, but I think the orange OG1 (2.44”) will be replacing that. My fishing buddy was watching closely and you’ll probably be getting an order from him too. Thanks again Donn and congrats on the great product. I’m certainly glad you sent them to try down here. I can’t wait to try OGs for lake trout too (downrigging/trolling)… we have them in two lakes down here. Best regards and Merry Christmas!" Jim! Thanks for the report--and--thanks for putting the OG1s to work down there! For a number of years, I've noticed that the packaging for quite a few salmon lures contained stickers with "Glow" or "UV Glow" or similar.
And, when running our lures out of Westport, Sekiu, and Puget Sound, have experimented with identical lures--one painted with UV-reflective paint and another with a non-UV reflective finish. The results of those tests have shown the UV-reflective paint to be far more effective at attracting the fish. I've been curious as to the science behind what's happening. And, finally stumbled across an article that helped. Here's a link. We just had a great question about glow-paint. And, as I'd explained, we use UV reflective paint on all of our salmon lures (from the white base coat to the additional over coats).
That said, sometimes pictures illustrate a point far better than text. So, I'm posting two photos below. The first picture shows a box of the fluoro-green OG2s taken with ambient room light. In that second photo, you're looking at the same box of lures under a blacklight (which highlights the UV spectrum): Just in time for the winter Blackmouth season, we're introducing a new OG2 in fluoro-green/chartreuse. (Because the 5" and 3.9" versions of this color-combination had been so effective, we decided to offer it in the 2.8" size which mimics the Pacific Sandlance.)
Rick Denham, of Holy Moly Outdoors, just published a great video for folks getting ready to target Blackmouth in the Puget Sound this winter:
Several charter-boat skippers in New Zealand are interested in targeting local species with the OG1 and OG2. (These are the 5" version of both lures.)
They're rigged with 135lb stainless leaders and terminal tackle rated at 160lbs or better. (Owner 3/0 stinger hooks.) Looking forward to hearing how they fish! Just received another report and photo from Heath K. in Cordova, Alaska who is fishing the winter kings in Prince William Sound:
"Same lure, same results. Landed three, kept this big buck. Very pleased with OG so far." Heath! Many thanks for the report, and, for putting the OG2 to work up there! (The lure in the photo is a 3.9" OG2 in fluoro-white with black scales.) Received the below report and picture from Heath K. in Cordova, Alaska who was out fishing the salt for salmon this week with the 3.9" OG2 in fluoro-white with black scales:
"Finally back on the water. Landed four today on the 3.9 ... Remembered to snap a pic at the last minute." Heath: Thanks for putting the OG2 to work up there! (And, thanks for the report and photo!!) The demand for the fluorescent orange OG1s in 1.8" and 2.44" surprised us. Thanks to the hard work of our rigger, Jed W., we've been resupplied.
